I feel like I've been screaming into the wind for years about the moral depth of Hideo Kojima's work, but if we see more articles like this I won't be hoarse for much longer.
Uh, I don't even really play MGS (with the exception of 2 hours of MGS2 before throwing my controller down in disgust), and it was always pretty clear to me reading reviews and previews of the MGS games that there's always been a strong moral theme throughout the series.
Lots of games have moral themes, but the article in question was pointing out something that is, in fact, largely misunderstood about Metal Gear: that it expresses its moral themes through gameplay.
Metal Gear is commonly written off as uninteresting procedural expression because of its heavy use of cut-scenes. But this article illustrates how Metal Gear uniquely uses the medium to express its ideas... which is something I don't think I've ever seen a review or preview emphasize sufficiently.
